Detail Work

Not only did the people at visim make a shirt that combines two of my current loves, t-shirts with pockets and corduroy, they focused on the details. The closure on the pocket. The two corduroy colours that work so well together. The gorgeous brand-tag on the arm. Everything about this t-shirt seems meticulously planned out. Maybe it's time to do a second wave of back-to-school shopping.

Boat Shoe Era

Talk about a major shift. Boat shoes, moccasins, and other low cut formal footwear have turned the sneaker game on it's head. This fact was acctually declared in Flight Club NY, a sneakerhead mecca, during an episode of "How To Make It In America". "Everyone's wearing these now" a cashier explains while pointing at his boat shoes. Ransom, spawn of the now defunt Goodfoot, has stepped into line with the latest offering from their Adidas collaboration. If I see kids stomping around in the moccasins with L.A. Gear-style flashing lights, I'll know it's gone too far.

Shirts So Good

Five years ago I remember going to visit a Billionaire Boys Club sweater at Ransom and just waiting for it's price to drop. It made me come back six or seven times. Every time looking a little less enticing and more worn in. I will not let that happen to this shirt from BBC's Spring/Summer 2010 line. I can't let it happen.

Generic Hat Post (Vol. 9) (March Madness Edition)

Remember to fill out your brackets. And say a prayer in memory of the Fab Four. Shame on you Chris Webber. Shame on you.

A Life Olympic

Alife, New York lifestyle-purveyors, have cemented their status as streetwear gods and unquestionable tastemakers. Their newest line continues to play on the standard issue motifs they have used in the past few seasons. The "A Rings" Tee is a key item in their newest line and is an unofficial Olympic commemorative piece that hits the mark. Kudos also goes to lululemon and their "Cool Sporting Event That Takes Place in British Columbia Between 2009 and 2011 Edition" clothing.

Short Weather Warning

My mantra as of late has been "Spring is coming". "Spring is coming" will eventually turn into "Summer is here". Seeing pieces like the Essex Short by Woolrich Woolen Mills reaffirms me. The colour block of deep navy is well executed and turns typical shorts into standout Spring/Summer-wear.

Cookie Kicks

Made for dunking balls or dunking in milk these Jordan VI "Oreo" edition are sweet as their cookie counterparts. The speckled ascents, especially the lace lock, tie everything together to make this more than your regular black and white sneaker.

First Nation Inspiration

Both Louis Vuitton and Trussardi unveiled pieces this week that seem to have an influences from first nations clothes making. Vuitton's "New Age Traveler Backpack" looks like something a post-apocalyptic hero would wear and cary his rations in. Trussardi's high tops (bellow), from the 1911 collection, are a fantastic concept taking the moccasin to new heights, literally.

Just Around The Corner

Spring is just around the corner. A rather large and lengthy corner but nonetheless a corner. To prepare for this shift in seasons one must begin their quest for a fashionable yet functional spring coat. Durable enough for cold winds and rain. Breathable for those surprisingly warm May days. Wings + Horn's spring line has two examples of these features but sadly doesn't meld them together for the perfect spring coat. The trench coat above is a great length, thin and breathable. The jackets bellow look ready for what spring has to dish out. Check out their spring line at the Roden Gray blog.

Accessory Of The Year

Something like this makes every high school's John Bender character well up a bit. The ultimate statement of bad-assness - publicly exhibiting one's underwear. From the very bright and cheery fredflare.com the Handerpants are made of a cotton-spandex blend to keep your not-so-private parts warm.

Runners-Up

Dee and Ricky anything - I contemplate daily going to Toys R' Us and buying lego to make my own Dee and Ricky style broach. These guys really see the fun in fashion and it's fun to watch their rise on their blog.

Fedoras, Pork Pies, Boaters, and Bowlers - Not top hats though. (Exception: T-Pain)

Beards - Not only because I have one. Because I AM one.

Major Collaborators

To celebrate their three year anniversary, Washington, D.C. streetwear purveyors, Major have hooked up two industry heavyweights from opposite coasts. California's The Hundreds have channeled The Cleveland Indian's Wild Thing for their tee. It is simplistic and typical of The Hundreds signature style. New Jersey's Mishka have overloaded their crewneck with logos; the Washington Capitals eagle, the Major M, and their own KWP pyramid and Keep Watch! eyeball. Both are available in limited quantities in store and online.

Berghaus In The House

The numerous in-house testers of Berghaus' outerwear line once took the product to the world's highest peaks and the roughest terrains. This resulted in Berghaus being responsible for producing some of the most durable gear available. The brand has now relaunched these jackets under the title the Berghaus Heritage range and is hoping to reclaim it's spot at the top. With Berghaus' original models and new vibrant colour schemes these jackets are perfect for your streewear-enthusiast adventurer type. Like Indiana Spike Jonze.

X-Large X Everybody

Streetwear brand X-Large are quickly becoming sought after collaborators. Recently they have put out product with Disney and Penfield. The most recent collaboration comes as part of a kick off for "Afro Samurai: Resurrection." Seeing that Afro Samurai is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson you know that these mother fucking tees are off the mother fucking chain.

Frye Boots...Shoes

The guys over at Street Etiquette had the pleasure of having a sneak peak at Frye Boots Spring/Summer line-up. A big leap away from their traditional engineer boot the brand has expanded into slip-ons, boat shoes and chukkas. The variety doesn't stop in styles either, the brand has expanded it's colours schemes and roster of materials. I have been pondering a shift over to "grown-man-ness" lately. Could these shoes be the first step?

Backpack Ready For Battle

The Pangolin Backpack by Cyclus is named after a scaly anteater from the tropical regions of Asia and Africa. Mimicking the pangolin's plate-like scales this bag is kept closed by using magnetic closures rather than the sea of zippers on other bags. Made from recycled truck tire inner tubes this bag is durable and sets you up to brag about being "eco-friendly." Inside, unlike it's mammalian counterpart, it's full of pouches and pockets for your pens, pencils and oversized "Big Mistake" eraser.

Play Cloths Winter Line Part 1

The Clipse's brand Play Cloths has really hit it out of the park with this line. Fall and Winter Clothes that look like Fall and Winter clothes. Thick knits and designs that put focus on comfort. Im especially love the graphic on the t-shirt, check out a more detailed look bellow.

That Guy(s)...

Dee and Ricky

The twin brothers Jackson have flipped the world of accessories on it's head. Their signature Lego-built pieces are chunky and simplistic. Lego bowites, Etch-A-Sketch belt-buckles and fake cigarette broaches round out an eye-catching collection. They caught the eye of Marc Jacobs and contributed to his spring 2008 line. They also are two-thirds of the hip hop trio Jackson Swinton. Check out some of their stuff bellow and at their website.

Eat My Sh(oes)!

These shoes look good enough to eat. As if constructed by Willy Wonka himself. The OG Nike Air Force 180 Pump has many fine distinctions; it's text, colour scheme and chunky soles. Charles Barkley used to endorse these, so I bet they cost $100,000.
