Death Of G!

A friend passed along this news to me last night at the bar. It hadn't really sunk in until I read this;

"To our valued customers and vendors,

It’s been our great pleasure to bring you some of the most exciting products and events the sneaker market has had to offer over the last 10 years of business. Over time we’ve seen many faces pass through our doors, and made great friends along the way. We broke ground for Canada’s retail landscape, and paved the way for those that followed. Yet, nothing lasts forever and it has come time to close.

We’ve seen our market change significantly over the last few years. And, as it has changed direction, so too have we. Thus the decision to close Goodfoot and shift our focus onto new opportunities has been made. There are many exciting projects to come in our future, and we hope that everyone who supported us at Goodfoot will continue to support us in the growth and evolution of our exciting endeavors to come.

We’d like to officially take this time to thank you for supporting Goodfoot. We’ll always remember the relationships that were built, and the unbelievable energy and loyalty our customers brought to this unique shop.

Thank you,

The Goodfoot Team

PLEASE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOUR INDEPENDENTS!"

Please give me time to mourn.

So Many Wizards - Fly A Kite (Video)

How can you not like a band named So Many Wizards? With an infectious melody "Fly A Kite" makes me want to tap dance freely around my neighbourhood. Can't wait to hear more of his upcoming Love Songs For When You Leave Me EP.

Spread Love It's The (Blogger's) Way

ZachMorrisism has gotten some inter-love over the past few months. I guess I've paid my dues or at very best nagged long enough. Panic Bomber's official site has posted my review of "Getting On My Mind" and his management has most graciously sent me over an advanced copy of his "Discipline" EP. Also culturethoughts. , a blog run by aspiring writer/musician and all around dude's dude Jon Spratt, gave a shout out to The Zach and our eclectic content. Commence head inflation.

Wakey! Wakey! - Brooklyn (Video)

The lyrics of Wakey!Wakey!'s ballad "Brooklyn" cut through the mesmorizing piano. Mike Grubb, who describes his role in the band as "Piano, Mojo, and Vocals", has a voice worthy of top 40 radio with a Ben Folds-like playfulness. Check out more of Wakey!Wakey! at their MySpace.

Jessie Span-Oh Snap! (Vol. 4)

A little Jessie. A little homework. A little R&R. A lot of weed. Welcome to the weekend.
cha ching?

Update: I may be adding advertising to the site. If I can figure out the complicated instructions. And if it doesn't fuck with my aesthetic.

I'm Not Racist...

...I Have Black Friend.

(Insert Free Agency Pun Here)

All year I've heard about Wade, LeBron and Bosh being free agents at the end of this year and all of their presumed suitors. Mythology of the three forces combining in Miami or New York City. But when I looked up the NBA free agent class of 2010 online I was surprised to see the huge number of valuable guys that will be floating in NBA purgatory come July 1st-ish. They include; Joe Johnson, Shaq, Drew Gooden, Tracy McGrady, Manu Ginobili, "The Red Rocket" Matt Bonner (eeeeh...?), the remaining 11 of Miami's roster (including Joel Anthony and Mario Chalmers who are restricted free agents). Dirk Nowitzki has an "early termination option" and Kobe has the player option on his contract. So get ready seismic plates of the NBA, the rumblings begin...

Humdrum Town - Theophilus London (Video)

Turtle necks and synth powered hip-hop soul could be big in 2010. So could high-waisted shorts and congo drum based dance fusion. Not quite Prince. Not quite Kanye. London is a fresh breeze in the poorly ventilated room that is hip hop. And he rides a moped.

Old School Thievery

Though it provided me with a low-grade chuckle ESPN.com has to owe some sort of royalty to the writers of "Old School". At the very least line-deliverer Will Ferrel. What next? "Whale's Vagina Releases LT"

Miles Krukosky - Dog In The Burning Building (Video)

I haven't quite decided if I love this video or if it's the stuff that nightmares are made of. The tune is catchy though. Gotta love the xylophone. Also gotta love words that start with x.

I associate Fridays with Ms. Kapowski. I associate Mondays with Belding. I have a bad case of the Monday Beldings.

A Life Olympic

Alife, New York lifestyle-purveyors, have cemented their status as streetwear gods and unquestionable tastemakers. Their newest line continues to play on the standard issue motifs they have used in the past few seasons. The "A Rings" Tee is a key item in their newest line and is an unofficial Olympic commemorative piece that hits the mark. Kudos also goes to lululemon and their "Cool Sporting Event That Takes Place in British Columbia Between 2009 and 2011 Edition" clothing.

Like Kissing A Greasy Pan

The title and picture really say it all.

Thug Life Meets Pottery Barn

Last week the crew from The Hundreds went and visited Everlast's, of House Of Pain fame, residence in L.A. They uncovered the most gangster end table out there. See Everlast's friend DJ Lethal used to own Tupac's old house and found this slab of cement in the backyard. When he moved out he didnt want the new owner to get this gem and instead opted to have it immortalized in furniture form. Makaveli will rise again...in a recliner!

Wow...Just Wow

As if T-Pain wasn't animated enough. Cartoon Network/Adult Swim have given T-Pain his own animated special that commemorates Freaknik, the now defunct Spring Break celebration for American black colleges and universities in Atlanta. With Lil Wayne as black Jesus and Cee-Lo as a fat white guy this cartoon could be nothing but gold. As if T-Pain needs any more of that.

Short Weather Warning

My mantra as of late has been "Spring is coming". "Spring is coming" will eventually turn into "Summer is here". Seeing pieces like the Essex Short by Woolrich Woolen Mills reaffirms me. The colour block of deep navy is well executed and turns typical shorts into standout Spring/Summer-wear.

All-Star Weakened

After last year's NBA All-Star weekend there was a lot to look forward to in 2010. LeBron's promise to re-energize the dunk competition and bring high-profile names back to it. The ever tightening gap in talent between the Eastern and Western Conference all-stars. And most importantly the second annual "H.O.R.S.E. presented by Geico", which I raved about last year. Now, on the Friday night of All-Star weekend, I quasi-care that this event is even happening. Quasi. LeBron quickly reneged on his offer to revolutionize and participate. Now King James will only be a judge in this year's dunk competition alongside the usual cast of characters (Dr. J, Charles Barkley, Dominique Wilkins, etc..) and Drake. Drake? Yes, his character on Degrassi did play basketball. Wheelchair basketball, where dunking....I'm not going to go there. The judging spot was given to him by Sprite, the sponsor of the dunk competition, to maximize synergy while unveiling his new ad campaign. As for the All-Star teams, each one took a blow this week with the East losing Allen Iverson and the West losing Kobe Bryant. They have five All-Star game MVP awards between them and provide an exciting tempo during the game. Their replacements? Jason Kidd and David Lee (White? and Whiter). Most likely I will tune into the dunk competition and catch the highlights of the rest of the festivities on SportsCentre. I suggest you do the same.

Get Him To The Greek (Trailer)

"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" might be one of the most quotable movies of the past five or ten years. This summer two more hours of quotable content will be in a theatre near you.

One Hundred...

...music videos have been posted on ZachMorrisism. That's more than MTV has played in the past decade. Here's a brief article on MTV's newest logo change and their ever progressing move away from music. And here's another one on the logo itself.

DOM KENNEDY - Menace Beach (Video)

I wish my rope chain looked neon. I just looks like rope. Twine to be precise. Glad to see my favourite track from DOM's FutureStreet/DrugSounds got a video.

Deadpool Overkill

This month Marvel has decided to print variant covers of it's biggest titles, all of them featuring Deadpool. "The Merc With A Mouth" has a growing popularity among comic book readers and will most definitely have a motion picture after his appearance in last summers "X-Men Origins: Wolvervine". Marvel, being the Disney-owned money printing factory made of indestructible adamantium that it is, will do anything to pry open nerd wallets everywhere. Check out the good, the bad and the ugly bellow.

Kelly KaPOWski (Vol.9)

Kelly looks all business in her blazer and tube top combination. I'll be all business as I work from 7-midnight tonight. T.G.I.F' That Noise!

Trick Daddy - In Da Wind (Video)

I volunteer and work with children for school and throughly enjoy my days. But Trick loves the kids. Orange sodas for everyone!

Rampant Stagnation

Look around you. New is no longer new. New is the re-branded, re-marketed old. Dusty, packed up memories sold to you as trendy and cutting edge. Masses of tweens, twitterers and Twi-hards lining up to buy what their friends have to have. Want to want. Need to need. Unconsciously fueling companies that could only be described as "culture vultures". Picking every last piece of sub-culture off society's skeleton. Luckily enough I am conscious enough to recognize this. Sadly I still buy into it all the time.

A Fat Kid Resides Within Me

Two after-bar classics collide to collectively clog Canadian hearts everywhere. The Canadian Calzone is stuffed with Poutine (fries, cheese curd and brown gravy) and deep fried to perfection. To quote Ella Fitzgerald "who could ask for anything more?"

Cookie Kicks

Made for dunking balls or dunking in milk these Jordan VI "Oreo" edition are sweet as their cookie counterparts. The speckled ascents, especially the lace lock, tie everything together to make this more than your regular black and white sneaker.

Greenberg (Trailer)

Doing nothing as your full-time occupation IS brave. Thank you Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Better Than A Ken Griffey Rookie Card

Using "augmented reality", a new technology that boggles my mind, Topps have given trading card collectors a whole new reason to live. Sad really. When the cards are placed infront of a webcam they reveal a 3D athlete ready to play mini games using the computers keyboard. These games include throwing a baseball at targets to catching passes on the football field. Check out some footage bellow.

That Guy...

No I.D.

Often mentioned Kanye mentor, No I.D. took home two Grammys for his work on "Blueprint 3". Nation over at Nah Right wrote a little blurb applauding him. I decided to second that slow clap.

Sorry I've been on a bit of a high-atus. Marley and I had to take some time and reconnect. Hopefully get back into the swing of things this week.
